Introduction to Design Research
We have two teachers in this subject, Nick Rudenno who also works for Design is Kinky (All of our teachers works beside Billy Blue). He will take care of the more technical parts of this subject. I never thought research could be fun, but the other teacher in this class, Lissa Barnum, will make it happen. She had a very inspiring lesson yesterday, and beside the brief we need to bring in a drawing of an observation that we have made. It could be anything, but she want us as designers to open our minds and senses for everything around us. She also asked us to buy the book
how to be an explorer of the world, which is a really inspiring book about design research. It’s like being a kid!
The first brief in this subject will be a real life one. The project is being run as an initiative of Arts NSW, a state government body. We are allowed a budget of 750 dollars for this project and it will be up to each team to maximize th effectiveness of this budget through research and creativity. This assignment kind of reminds me of the Brand X week at Berghs! I’m so looking forward to this! So, we will create a street campaign, and the subject we were given is: Aboriginal Children’s Advancement Society. Wow, I feel really honored!
Yesterday at the train I came up with some ideas for the re-making of the green space in North Sydney, in the subject Design research and Ideas generation. is is my book for the subject. |
By the way, we have changed the moving in date to our new apartment for Monday evening instead. I need to take a picture of it when everything is ready. In Sydney people through out their furnishing and things they don’t want, outside their house on the street and one a month the streets are full. People walk around night time before the big trucks come and pick everything up, and so did we. As we live in pretty wealthy spot of Sydney, the things that people through out are often amazing. For example, we found three great chairs, new ones, from IKEA, all together worth 6000 kr!!!!! It started of with Niklas going grocery shopping. When he got out fro the store he found a wonderful carpet and took it. When he came home I had almost gone to bed, but he said that there was treasures everywhere, and so both Malin, me and Niklas went out in the Sunday night until 4 am, and created a whole house!! Just ‘cause we were lucky, we found a customer wagon and we brought gloves too, and practical clothes for carrying. It felt like we walked around at IKEA, and we looked so suspicious when we walked along the streets laughing, looking extremely silly, so that two police cars stopped us along the way asking us what we are doing! Fortunately you don’t break any rules by picking up the things from the streets, and they actually started laughing when they realized how serous we were about this, wearing gloves, carrying a wagon and everything. We were like a group of night ninjas, and I found a pair of gummistövlar (?), a portfolio, a beautiful chair (will take pictures later), and some other great stuff! So, we barely have to buy nothing now!
Yesterday after school me and Morgane travelled out to the music studio where the band we’re creating a music video for, played together. We got to see their movements and we had asked them to bring some different clothing alternatives for the music video. It was so much fin to finally watch them play, and as we have spent so many hours listening to this song, I have actually started to like it more and more. Also, because I know how the film will look in every second of the film. I will post the story board after the film is done and cut.
So, as I’m sitting here with four new interesting briefs, I better get started! There is a wonderful library in Double Bay where I will probably sit Saturday and do research. Sunday will most be preparing for moving into the new apartment with my two wonderful friends!
A tip I got from Jake in my class yesterday is textures where you can add different textures to your illustrations in Photoshop and Illustrator. I need to try that some time!
